“So I got this free with my GFX card earlier in the year. Lucky that, because it’s a pretty shoddy port. Exiting is hilarious (thank god for alt+F4), what the hell are these black borders, and it doesn’t support the triggers on the bloody 360 pad. I have games from before the 360 existed that support those, let alone all the games since that have no such issue.
Also, it’s not quite pretty enough to deserve all the gushing over how pretty it is. A bit like 13 in House…”

“Imagine a million puns related to hanging on/around/about etc going in here. I fear that if I typed them I might unleash some daemonic otherworldly entity.
I can’t remember where this is. Damascus was it?”

Imperfect as it may be, Borderlands is still a rather entertaining FPS version of an Action RPG, especially in 4 player co-op. It works best in the first half of the game when challenge is high and you’re most enthused about gearing up. The final third doesn’t really capture the same thrill, throwing in far too much loot that you won’t use and having fights too easily beatable by two or three of your four person team. Fun though.

“Say hello to the bearded, blood splattered visage of Alexander Cousland.”
And so the Dragon Age screenshots begin. Beards, incidently, are essential items for any RPG player character.

A fantastic Diablo-style action RPG, best summed up by the fact that my dog summons zombies and skeletons. Zombies and skeletons! My dog! Great stuff, and one of many diamonds in this end of year gaming deluge.

“One of the singleplayer missions again, this one involved the enemy blowing the hell out of my ships with 4 million missiles. The cads.”

“Just a normal day at the office when it comes to Gratuitous Space Battles. In fact, this barely qualifies as gratuitous! I bet this is from one of my failed attempts at level 1. I’ve taken an iterative approach to ship design, orders and deployment. Yes, that makes it sound much less like I suck…”

“I do love leaping around in a mech, slapping people with my giant metal hands.
Stats.“
It’s probably destined for zero players by the end of the year but it really doesn’t deserve to be (ignoring the fact that ranked servers crash every 1 to 3 maps at the moment). Killing people in Section 8 is the most satisfying multiplayer combat I’ve engaged in for years. It’s a game that really knows how to make you feel like a badass.
