The Sims 3: It’s Journalism, Damnit!

KNOW YOUR DOPE FIEND. YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT! You will not be able to see his eyes because of Tea-Shades, But his knuckles will be white from inner tension and his pants will be crusted with semen from constantly jacking off when he can’t find a rape victim. He will stagger and babble when questioned. He will not respect your badge. The Dope Fiend fears nothing. He will attack, for no reason, with every weapon at his command-including yours. BEWARE. Any officer apprehending a suspected marijuana addict should use all necessary force immediately. One stitch in time (on him) will usually save nine on you. Good luck. – The Chief

The Sims 3: Bat Country

The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. And I knew we’d get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

On the evening of April 28th, City Of Heroes/Villains held its fifth anniversary celebrations. On the Heroside this involved dozens and dozens of Hero characters gathered in the centre of Atlas Park, fighting wave after wave of giant monster enemies spawned by the staff. I was there from 7:30ish until the final spawn at 9 and had great fun. CoX is a flawed MMO in keeping with its age but I’ve hugely enjoyed the time I’ve spent with it on and off over the last few years.

FEAR 2: It’s The Only Way To Be Sure

I really enjoyed my 11 or so hours playing through this. Sure, the ending is a bit “oh wait it’s over now?” but this was a really enjoyable traditional FPS. I’ve never played the first one, so I am feeling the urge to check that out as well. The slow motion fights here were great (I had plenty of Hollywood moments, slow motion running out of cover at enemies as bullets fly and I slowly shotgun them each in turn) but I gather they’re even better in the original.

“So pretty when moving smoothly at ludicrous speeds, this game is. The open world aspect doesn’t drive things forward as well as the structure in Burnout 3 did though.”

Dawn Of War 2: Stairmasters

“I think this was me making my way to a boss fight from a few days ago. I expect my commander is off-screen in the midst of the buggers I’m shooting at. He gets all the best jobs!

Bit of a shame there’s no GUI killing key, and that there are icons over squads no matter what (unless I’m too stupid to have found such toggles yet). It’s a lovely looking game and deserves billions of screenshots in my stream.”

I’m approaching the end now, I think, but this has been tremendous fun. Whilst I can definitely see the point Tom Francis made in his PCGUK review about repetition, it really hasn’t bothered me. This is probably because of the constant progression of character levels and gear, which does tend to engross me in single player games.

Red Alert 3: Red Peril

“Defeating some Allied forces with a handful of rockets… and their armoured escort, of course.”

RA3 is a deeply traditional RTS but that’s just what I was in the mood for at the time. Killer bears and giant robots – it’s crying out for me to return to it after Dawn Of War II. Perhaps its biggest flaw is that it plays to my “toss rockets from afar” tendencies, reducing fights to brightly coloured artillery exercises.

All Change

Alex Hopkinson on Xbox LiveIn years past, when I was a man with more time on my hands, I would update this site semi-regularly with a variety of random bits. Clearly this is never going to happen again, so I’m slowly transitioning this into a basic aggregation of links (to gamercards and xfire profiles, for example) and my Flickr screenshot stream. Perhaps occasional other stuff will end up here or perhaps it will lie largely dead like the old site did, but at least it will be a little better suited to inactivity.

I’m not planning to remove any of the old content, but it will no longer be linked from the front page. If you wish to peruse the old piles of images and whatnot, you can access the old front page through this link. Note that any links back to the main page from the old site will no longer work correctly.

Also there was the old blogger blog, the part that I always forget exists. I’m just going to leave that dead and abandoned for the moment, despite the (probably huge) number of spammy comments it collects.
