League
Of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Movie
Here's a film that's unfortunately no where near as good as the
book. Based on Alan Moore's excellent graphic novel of the same
name, this takes the basic concept of collecting 19th century
literary characters into "super hero" team and then
throws them into a completely different story. I can't help but
think that following the book would have made for a much better
film, but as it is it's not too bad. Despite not living up to
the source material, League is still a fun romp of a film to watch.
The performances are acceptable and the effects mostly fine, with
the action scenes pretty well done - including some nice touches,
often with Sean Connery's character Allan Quartermain. There's
not much to say about the film as there's unfortunately not quite
enough to it, but it's not as bad as many people would have you
think. Fun for a Saturday night with the drinks and friends, methinks.

Dude, Where's My Country? - Book
The fourth book from Michael Moore delves into the murky farce
of the meglomaniacal dictator hated the world over and his war
without justification. Yes, it's that bastard Bush again. Not
wanting to be subjected to right-wing nerds on the Internet trying
to point out that killing different people is "right"
and that they NEED their guns damnit, Moore fills pages and pages
with details of all the sources used. Which is the only real change
from his usual books. It's well written and, if you haven't been
keeping up with things on the net (a problem with these kind of
books now - they do tend to cover a lot of stuff you may have
already read about), then it's also full of shocking information
about the goings on in American politics. It didn't work quite
as well for me as his first book but it equals the standard of
the best-selling Stupid White Men. Everyone should read this,
whether they agree with his stance or not.
