Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines - Movie

I'm a big fan of the first two Terminator movies, so I was a little upset to learn they'd made a third. With Arnie being the only main cast member returning (which is a shame, I'd have really liked to see Edward Furlong reprise his role), my hopes were not high. The first third of the movie did little to persuade me otherwise. It didn't have the feeling of "calm before the storm" that 1 & 2 had, and it seemed to lurch uncomfortably into the action sequences (though they were impressive nonetheless). Once it found its legs though, T3 rolled along quite well. The closer to the end you get, the greater the feeling of apocalyptic hopelessness is, which is always good. The ending itself... I can't really mention much without spoiling it, but it's not what you expect (and pleased me greatly - there need to be more endings like that!). The effects were excellent, the action tremendous (though I preferred T2's - just), the acting acceptable and the story fine. It's no T1 or T2 but it hasn't ruined the franchise by any means.

Rust by Alasdair Watson & Daniel Merlin Goodbrey - Webcomic - http://www.popimage.com/rust/index.htm

Whilst reading Warren Ellis' book Come In Alone, I decided to check out some of the webcomics he mentioned within. Rust is an odd, cyberpunk (I think, I'm never completely sure what actually fits into which genre) webcomic that runs for sixteen colour pages. There's some very slight animation, and some interesting layout techniques but it's basically nothing that couldn't have been done on paper - though that's not really important. The art is very odd and quite interesting, though it could benefit with some larger panels every so often. The dialogue is sharp and consistent, though it's too short to really judge the writer's skill. The plot... well it really feels like it should be continuing on past the "ending". I'm not sure if more was ever intended but the whole thing is a great set-up for a longer story but it just stops. If it was geared more towards this length, or if it was the first part of something a little longer then I'd have enjoyed it much more.
