Underworld
- Movie
When you come out of a movie thinking "darn, why weren't
there any better shots of her nice arse in all that leather"
you know something's not quite right. Informed by the trailers,
I went into this movie with a reasonable idea of the "vampire
versus werewolves with post-Matrix/Blade stylings" premise
and expected to, at very least, be impressed by the action. I
kept waiting to be impressed by the action right up until the
final fight finished. None of the combat scenes deliver real thrills
or successfully impress, which they really need to do in this
kind of film. There's no "Neo fights an Agent in the subway",
"Neo & Trinity pop into the office", "Morpheus
and friends have too much fun on the highway" or even a "Neo
parties hard with a few dozen Agent Smiths". No payoff for
all the attempted style. Why am I not mentioning the plot? Because
it's equally average and could have fallen out of one of many
1980s American comics or 90s Japanese animation. It's another
couple of hours of "average", though I'd recommend seeing
this once over last week's Tears Of The Sun.
