Lullaby
by Chuck Palahniuk - Book
I've now read every book Mr. Palahniuk has written and I must
admit that I went into this one lacking in expectation. His first
book was excellent (though I'm never truly sure if I'm overly
influenced by my love for the movie version of it - yes, Fight
Club boys and girls) but his other three since then have failed
to find the same groove, with Choke coming closest. I got about
forty or fifty pages into Lullaby and any disappointment I'd felt
in Palahniuk's other work fell away. Lullaby is possibly his best
work, which means I may have enjoyed reading it even more than
I enjoyed reading his debut. It's full of his trademark horrible
characters and twisted observations on modern life and the writing
is in his usual odd style, though tighter here than it has been
(which is a good thing). I don't really want to spoil the main
element of the plot as it's a surprising turn when it happens,
which means I can't truly explain what the story is about. Just
try not to read the back of the book, make this your impulse buy
of the week. It's set in the filth of modern life where bastards
and bitches ruin each other's lives. Where a few people have the
means to change it. Read it, please.

Bad Boys 2 - Movie
There's not much to say about Bad Boys 2, which probably has you
thinking "oh, it must be awful". Mindless yes, awful
no. Funny, loud, excessive, stylish, mindless fun - that about
sums it up. It's unlikely to win any awards, instead it's perfect
beer-and-snacks movie watching. Some people have complained it's
too long, they must be silenced. I miss going to see films that
exceed two hours, assuming they're not terrible. This will probably
stand up to repeated watching better than the first offering,
which never quite grabbed me like it did everyone else. Go, turn
off brain and enjoy.
