This
is my page of mini-reviews of things I finished watching or reading
during the week that I don't feel like doing a proper full review
of. The idea is to keep the reviews between two lines and one
paragraph long, and to update them every week that I watch/read
something worth commenting on. As I tend to only go for things
I know I'll enjoy to some extent, the scores are mostly going
to be high. Previous weeks' reviews can be found linked at the
bottom of this page.
Master And Commander - Movie
Ahh, a Russel Crowe movie. I only watch decent films that he's
in (LA Confidential, Gladiator, Beautiful Mind) and I'm glad to
say this doesn't spoil my run. This reminded me of the older sea-faring
films made back in the day, where there are two ships and the
focus is on the trials and tribulations of one crew. You need
an actor with presence to carry that kind of a film and as expected,
Crowe fits the bill nicely. The supporting cast are all well played,
especially the doctor and the kids. This is no epic tale of sea
warfare, nor a romp with pirates. Instead it's a good, well produced,
character driven (certainly more than you might expect anyway)
piece of cinema. Not excellent but a good film nonetheless.
7.75/10
